Semi-workshop, semi-jam, this biweekly improv get-together was created for femme improvisers to have dedicated time together to play. We’ll focus on things like improvising from a place of joy and building on our own mini-community of improv in Milwaukee.
All female-identified (whether currently, formerly, semi, or still working through it) performers, including cis-women, trans women, trans men, and non-binary folx. Veteran or newbie, longform or short form. You don’t have to be enrolled in Ampersand Theater Company (formerly Mojo Dojo Comedy) lessons to participate. All improvisers in the Greater Milwaukee Area are welcome.
WHAT'S THE GOAL?
To build camaraderie and a community of support, to strengthen our voices and energy, and to have a place to discuss challenges in the Milwaukee improv community that impact marginalized genders, and how we can improve things.
WHAT’S IT LIKE?
It changes every time, depending on who's there and what we want to work on. We always have planned exercises, warm-ups and games/formats, but we're also here to support each other.
Maybe you need advice on how to handle challenges you're having in your improv journey. Maybe there's a format you're struggling with, or a game you've always wanted to try. We work together as a group to make everyone feel more comfortable so they can bring that energy to their next show. When we lift each other up, we're all better off as a result.
Essentially, what we do at Parity is normal improv stuff, but with a conscientiousness about what it’s like to be *us* behind it. It’s building our inner community right here in Milwaukee. Playing from a place of comfort, being open to innovation, and working to get more women ready to tackle any improv challenge or audition that comes our way.
